About Our Charities, Projects, and Events


Local Charities

  • PPE to Front Line Workers and Volunteers - Rotarians purchased face masks, face shields, gowns, and gloves for various groups in the community. Rotarians also assembled face shields to achieve maximum economic value. 

  • California Youth Services - CYS impacts more than 5,000 individuals each year by providing education, assessment, crisis intervention and counseling that assist families address life’s challenges related to substance abuse, academic challenges, behavioral and mental health struggles.

  • The Dana Point Fifth Marine Regiment Support Group - The Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment Support Group works to benefit active duty Marines, Sailors and their families who are members of the 5th Marine Regiment. The group collects funds and resources needed by the 5th Marines wherever they may be deployed or for their families in need of assistance.

  • Boys & Girls Club Capistrano Valley - The Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley are a world-class after-school nonprofit, offering quality programs for academic success and healthy lifestyles while building good character and leadership skills in its members. The BGCCV are truly the positive place for kids and teens in Orange County.

  • Just Like Me Foundation - Just Like Me Foundation serves teens and young adults with special needs. Rotarians provide organized after school, weekend, and summer activities throughout the year. Just Like Me Foundation aims to create a community of belonging for teens and young adults with special needs. 

  • BACA - Bikers Against Child Abuse International - B.A.C.A. tries to create a safer environment for abused children. The Bikers empower children to not feel afraid of the world in which they live. 

  • Pacific Marine Mammal Center - The Pacific Marine Mammal Center rescues, rehabilitates, and releases marine mammals while inspiring ocean stewardship through research, education and collaboration.

  • Shea Therapeutic Riding Center - The Shea Center is dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities through therapeutic horse-related programs.


International Projects

  • Dental Clinic for Children in the Philippines - The Monarch Beach Sunrise Rotary (MBSR) Club was recognized at the district level for a Global Grant awarded for a Children's Dental Clinic in the Philippines. Global grants are extremely difficult to obtain and it was a great honor to be awarded the grant and be recognized by the district.  The dental clinic, in Bodul, is in the village's elementary school.  The MBSR club also provided sinks for the school so students could brush their teeth.

  • Water Well Project in Nepal - The MBSR Club is currently working on a $30,000 Global Grant application for a Water Well Project in the Women’s Village in Nepal.  Village women must walk long distances to get water because of extensive earthquake damage.  

  • Water Well Projects in India and Zambia - The MBSR Club is working with the San Clemente Rotary Club and the Mission Viejo Rotary Club on Global Grants for Water Wells in Zambia and India.

  • PPE in Tijuana, Mexico - The MBSR Club recently purchased and delivered PPE to Tijuana to help supply local hospitals.

  • FINCA Microloans - The MBSR Club helps supply micro loans to different small businesses.   

  • Computer lab in Mexico - The MBSR Club funded a computer lab for students.

  • Backpacks for Orphans in Mexico - The MBSR Club supplied backpacks filled with school supplies to students who are orphans.

  • Roof for Medical Clinic in Mexico - The MBSR Club helped build a new roof for a medical Clinic.

  • Diagnostic Equipment in India   

  • Dental/Medical Fair in Guatemala

  • Dentures and Reading Glasses for Seniors in Mexico

  • Children’s Boarding School Program in Israel


Youth Projects

  • College Scholarship Program - Graduating High School Students are given a two year scholarship to college.  With the help of a mentor, students receive the guidance and support needed to succeed in college.

  • MBS Rotary's Annual Youth Career Day  -  High School Seniors from Dana Hills and Aliso Viejo High Schools learn about different vocations through a variety of speakers.

  • Interact Service Club - Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Interact clubs organize at least two projects every year, one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding. 

  • Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) - Young men and women spend a weekend in a challenging program of discussions, inspirational addresses, leadership training and social activities designed to enhance personal development, leadership skills and good citizenship.


Community Events

  • Dana Point Senior Center's Annual Thanksgiving Lunch - Our club serves 200+ seniors and 14+ shut ins.  All the turkeys and trimmings are cooked by Rotarians. 

  • RH Dana Elementary School - MBSR used stencils to paint whales at the school on the sidewalks around the buildings and hand painted whales on doors to the classrooms.  

  • Diamond Dig during Festival of Whales - Children age 11 and under dig for treasure, toys, prizes and for ONE lucky person, a beautiful piece of diamond jewelry, donated by Marinelli Fine Jewelry.
